“ It makes you an outcast, but being an outcast frees you from the shackles of expectation of feminine submissiveness. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which was asked in the Declaration of Independence and granted to men is more readily available to lesbians. “
I love reading coming out stories for so many reasons - but mostly for that feeling of pure liberation when a person recognizes that all their "choices" up to that point have been mere habit or convention.
I *just* read WOMEN last week and it was so pure and perfect. You know how I feel about Playboy... and thank you for the truly excellent reading list!
I know...I picked up Women because you mentioned it in your Friday chat! I found it at a local bookshop, and forgot I had it on my shelves.
I think yes, habit and convention, and also...just doing what's expected without fully realizing there's an alternative. And once you make that decision, then you realize that you don't have to conform to any of the conventions.
It has already been said in the comments how valuable and succinct a resource this is! I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction to Audre Lorde's sentiment about lesbianism being true feminist liberation, above all I appreciated the emphasis on lesbianism coming at a cost in a patriarchal society but the gain being so much more than the loss. Thank you
Thank you for this post. 💖 Could you maybe correct Tove Jansson's name? (Jansson with an O, not an E.) You seem to have made a typo there in several sentences. 🙏

Viva libertad! 💕
Also so many new books added to the list!
Enjoy :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it - and thank you for reading my pieces.
Doing something despite the costs shows - determination. I love that about lesbians :)
I just discovered the Moomin. Now I have another reason to love them 💕
The Moomin are very cute! Tove also wrote books for adults, one of them seemingly about her long-term love.
Ooh I’ll have to check that out😊
This is such a valuable resource. Thank you for sharing.
This is great!!❤️❤️
