I Am Alien to Life: Djuna Barnes

Finished up Djuna Barnes ‘I Am Alien to Life’ (edit. by @merve__emre) last night. Such a strange, delightful set of (very) short stories. The sentence structure, the observations, the way Barnes can sketch a character so thoroughly through a single not-long paragraph are the strengths of this collection. There were so many sentences I went back to re-read to commit to memory. And yet, there is also a lot of darkness, both of the depressed and the primal kind. Second photo is one of the ‘lighter’ examples that feels like it captured the spirit of this collection quite well.
